Stake Canada Review 2026: Is It Worth Your Money?

Canada’s Honest, No-Fluff Casino Breakdown

Quick Verdict

Stake is the largest crypto casino and sportsbook in the world, and the product earns that position. The game library runs past 3,000 titles, the in-house Stake Originals have no real equivalent elsewhere, and the VIP rakeback programme is among the most rewarding available to Canadians.

The problem is regulation. For most of Canada, Stake.com is an offshore site running on a Curaçao licence. It is blocked outright in Ontario. In Alberta, Stake Canada Ltd received AGLC registration on 24 September 2026, but it cannot take regulated bets until it signs a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. Until then, Albertans using Stake.com get none of the protections the new provincial market was built to provide.

Player feedback reflects that split. Stake scores well on payments and game variety, but complaints about long verification, suspended accounts and frozen balances come up too often to dismiss.

Best for: experienced, high-volume players who use crypto and value rakeback over welcome offers. Less suited to: Ontario players (blocked), casual players who rarely bet, and anyone who wants a provincial regulator behind their account. Alberta players may want to wait for the regulated launch.

Licensing, Ontario and Alberta Status

This is the section that should decide whether you open an account.

The licence. Stake.com is operated by Medium Rare N.V., which holds a licence from the Curaçao Gaming Authority under Curaçao’s newer regulatory regime. The regulator’s final assessment of that licence is still listed as in progress. In September 2026, reporting based on leaked Curaçao records said the licence was granted in 2025 while the regulator still had open questions about the company’s ownership. Curaçao has tightened its regime, but it still offers far less player recourse than a Canadian provincial regulator.

Ontario. Stake.com is geo-blocked in Ontario because it has no AGCO registration or iGaming Ontario agreement. Stake has built a separate Ontario site, Stake.ca, which currently shows a “coming soon” message, with no confirmed launch date. Using a VPN to get around the block breaches Stake’s terms of service and puts your balance at risk. If Stake.ca does launch, expect a different product: Ontario-licensed sites operate in fiat currency, not crypto.

Alberta. This is the most important recent change. On 24 September 2026, Stake Canada Ltd, a subsidiary of Stake Gaming and Easygo Group, received iGaming operator registration from Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis. Registration alone does not allow it to take bets. An operator also needs a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation, and only then does it appear in the AiGC directory of approved sites. Stake Canada’s general manager has said he expects licensing and an operating agreement to follow soon. Until that happens, Stake is not a regulated option in Alberta. See our Alberta iGaming guide for operators that are live.

Elsewhere in Canada. Players in other provinces can access Stake.com, but no provincial protections apply: no provincial self-exclusion integration, no regulator with jurisdiction over a dispute, and no mandated limit-setting.

Track record. Two events matter. In September 2023, hackers linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group stole about US$41 million in crypto from Stake’s hot wallets. Stake covered player funds and restored deposits and withdrawals within hours, which is the right response, but it shows the risk of crypto custody. Separately, Stake’s UK site closed in early 2025, when its white-label partner shut it down following regulatory scrutiny. On the other hand, Stake has moved into regulated markets elsewhere, including Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. That makes a regulated Canadian launch credible rather than speculative.

Bonus

200% match on your first deposit, claimed with a promo code at sign-up.

The headline is large, but the terms decide its value, and they vary by promo code. Published offers range widely in their maximum bonus, so read the terms attached to your specific code before depositing. Bonus offers are not available in Ontario.

Do the arithmetic. Wagering is where large match bonuses lose their shine. As an example, if a code carries 40x wagering on a C$500 bonus, you need to wager C$20,000 before you can withdraw. That’s achievable only at real volume.

What to check in the terms:

  • Wagering multiple — and whether it applies to the bonus only or to deposit plus bonus.
  • Game weighting — slots typically count in full, while table games often count for little or nothing.
  • Maximum bet while wagering — going over it once can void the bonus.
  • Time limit — a short window makes a high multiple close to unclearable.

The ongoing rewards matter more than the welcome offer.

  • Rakeback: Around 3.5% of the house edge comes back on every bet, win or lose.
  • Weekly Raffle: A US$75,000 prize pool, with one ticket for every US$1,000 wagered.
  • Daily Races: Leaderboard prizes based on daily wagering volume.
  • Sportsbook promos: Odds boosts and insurance-style offers around major events.

Keep rakeback in proportion. It’s a percentage of the house edge, not of your stake. On C$10,000 wagered on a slot with a 3% house edge, your expected loss is C$300, and 3.5% of that is roughly C$10.50. That’s meaningful over very high volume but small for casual play.

Our take: Stake rewards volume, not sign-ups. If you play often and in size, the ongoing programme is genuinely strong. If you play occasionally, the welcome match is the main benefit, and its terms need careful checking.

Games

More than 3,000 slots, including 150+ Stake exclusives. The library draws on the major studios, so the titles most players look for are present rather than filler from a single aggregator.

Stake Originals are the stand-out. These in-house games include Plinko, Crash, Dice, Mines and Limbo. They use a provably fair system, so each round’s result can be checked against cryptographic seeds. Few competitors offer anything comparable, and they are a large part of why Stake built its audience.

There is a caution, though. Originals are extremely fast, with rounds lasting seconds, which makes it easy to wager far more than intended. Set deposit limits before you start.

Live dealer covers blackjack, roulette, baccarat and game shows from leading live studios, with a wide range of table limits.

Table games include RNG blackjack, roulette, baccarat and poker variants.

The depth here is world-class. It’s the strongest part of Stake’s product, and it’s the main reason players accept the regulatory trade-off.

Sportsbook

More than 40 sports, covering the NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB, CFL and major soccer leagues, plus one of the largest esports sections available to Canadians.

Live betting runs across major leagues, with a live bet builder for in-play same-game combinations.

Bet builder lets you combine markets on a single game before kickoff or puck drop.

Promotions focus on odds boosts and early-payout offers on selected markets rather than a separate flat sports welcome bonus.

For Canadian hockey bettors, market depth on the NHL is strong. That said, prices on major markets are competitive rather than consistently the best, so compare odds before betting. Our Canadian sportsbooks page lists regulated alternatives.

Loyalty

The Stake VIP Club is one of the most generous loyalty programmes in the market, and it’s built entirely around wagering volume rather than deposits.

  • Progression: Based on total amount wagered. Casino play advances an account faster than sports betting.
  • Tiers: From Bronze up through Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond levels.
  • Rewards: Rakeback, weekly and monthly bonuses, and level-up payouts.
  • Higher tiers: Larger monthly bonuses and a dedicated VIP host.

Who it’s really for. The Gold tier, where the monthly bonus comes into play, starts at around US$100,000 wagered. For high-volume players, that’s reachable and the rewards are substantial. For casual players, the upper tiers are effectively out of reach, and the programme amounts to modest rakeback.

Banking

Stake was built around crypto, but Canadians can also play entirely in Canadian dollars through Interac.

MethodDepositsWithdrawalsTypical speed
Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT + 20 moreYesYesMinutes once confirmed
Interac e-TransferYes (availability can vary by account)YesUsually 1–3 business days
Card via MoonPayYes (buys crypto)NoInstant

Interac. Deposits start from about C$5. You generally withdraw back to the same method you deposited with, so choose your main payment method with withdrawals in mind.

Crypto. This is the fastest route in and out, with no Stake-side fees. Bear in mind that crypto prices move, so the value of your balance can change between deposit and withdrawal if you hold a volatile coin.

Verification. Expect to complete identity checks before larger withdrawals. This is where most player complaints start. Complete full verification as soon as you open your account, not when you first want to cash out.

Mobile

Stake runs smoothly on mobile through a fast mobile website, and an app is available in some regions. The full casino, sportsbook, live betting, cashier and account settings all work on phones without a cut-down experience.

Stake Originals and live betting are particularly well suited to mobile. That also makes them easier to over-use, so mobile is where deposit limits matter most.

Support

24/7 live chat is available in multiple languages, alongside email (support@stake.com) and a help centre covering accounts, payments, verification and responsible gambling.

For routine questions, live chat responds quickly. However, the pattern in player complaints is consistent: support is far less effective once an issue involves verification disputes, account suspensions or withheld balances. There is no telephone support.

Player Sentiment and Complaints

Trustpilot. Stake holds a 3.9/5 TrustScore from roughly 12,000 reviews. About 64% of reviews are five stars, while around 22–23% are one star. That split is the story: most players are happy, but a large minority are not.

AskGamblers. Stake has a 9.7/10 CasinoRank and won Best Crypto Casino at the AskGamblers Awards. It also has 74 complaints logged there. Recurring themes include suspended accounts with funds held, verification that drags on, and disputed bonus cancellations. Some complaints were resolved and others rejected.

Casino.Guru. Stake has an Above average Safety Index of 7.9, with more than 420 complaints counted across all sources. Casino.Guru’s summary of user reviews notes that payments and the game library get consistently positive feedback, while support, bonus and loyalty issues, and especially verification, draw the most criticism.

What players praise:

  • Fast crypto deposits and withdrawals.
  • The size and variety of the game library, especially Stake Originals.
  • The VIP and rakeback rewards for regular players.

What players complain about:

  • Identity verification that is slow, repeated or rejected.
  • Accounts suspended with balances frozen during review.
  • Support that struggles to resolve disputes.

Our take: For an operator of Stake’s size, raw complaint numbers are not unusual. What matters is the pattern, and here it’s clear: problems cluster around verification and account reviews. The practical defence is simple. Verify fully before depositing large sums, keep your documents consistent, and never use a VPN.

Responsible Gambling

Stake provides responsible gambling tools under its Stake Smart programme, including deposit limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion.

The important gap is provincial integration. Stake.com is not connected to Alberta’s centralised self-exclusion programme or Ontario’s. If you have self-excluded through your province, that exclusion does not carry over to Stake.com. On regulated sites, it does, and that’s one of the clearest practical reasons to choose a provincially registered operator.

Stake Originals deserve particular care. Rounds take seconds, so losses can build faster than on slots or sports bets. Set a deposit limit before your first session and treat it as fixed.

You must be 19+ to gamble in most provinces (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). Only bet what you can afford to lose.

  • Ontario — ConnexOntario, 1-866-531-2600

Against other crypto-first sites, Stake wins on scale: more games, deeper markets and a stronger VIP programme. Against regulated operators like TonyBet, it loses on protection. That gap will narrow sharply in Alberta if Stake’s regulated launch goes ahead. Compare more options on our crypto casinos page.

Final Verdict

Stake is a world-class product with a regulatory problem.

On product alone, it’s hard to beat. The game library is enormous, Stake Originals offer something competitors don’t, the sportsbook covers hockey and esports in depth, and the VIP programme rewards regular players more generously than almost anyone else available to Canadians. Crypto payments are fast, and Interac means you don’t need crypto to play.

However, for most Canadians, Stake.com is still an offshore site on a Curaçao licence. It is blocked in Ontario. Its Alberta registration is real progress, but until Stake signs its AiGC agreement, Albertans using Stake.com get no provincial protection, no provincial self-exclusion and no regulator with jurisdiction over a dispute. Meanwhile, complaints about verification and frozen balances are too consistent to ignore.

Our advice depends on where you live:

  • Ontario: Stake is not available. Use an AGCO-registered operator.
  • Alberta: Consider waiting for Stake’s regulated launch, which would bring AGLC oversight and provincial self-exclusion.
  • Elsewhere in Canada: Stake is a strong choice for experienced, high-volume players. Verify your account fully before depositing large amounts, and set limits from day one.

We’ll update this review, and its rating, as soon as Stake goes live in Alberta.
